Hey, interested to see if any guild wars players are going to switch over and play Warhammer when it comes out on Sept 18.

I dunno, if reviews are good, I might try a trial or something. But it may turn out to be like AoC - long wait for first trial codes, then you must pay $3/3 euro (since when 1$ = 1 euro? -.-) for download... And wow, you get 3 days. Download 15GB in 3 days when the best you can get is 50 kb/s. IMPOSSIBLE. 1,5GB downloads in 6 hours on 250 kb/s. Would download in 30 hours on 50 kb/s. Now multiply by 10. 300 hours to download 15GB. And 50kb/s is the BEST, usually it's 10-20 kb/s.

But if the reviews are better than AoC/we have a new king, everyone takes a piss on WoW, I'll try it for a month.

Well, seeing as you posted in Q&A as well:

Not likely. Monthly fee, clean streets in Altdorf, sanitised Great Unclean One? I'd hate to see what they've done to Slaanesh and his beauties. Giving it a whirl at Game Day if I can though.

Warhammar has always intrigued me, but the idea of paying a monthly fee for a game kills it for me.

Thanks Anarkii, but I don't know WHERE I must register the key. I've got a fileplanet account already, beta keys registered to a new account on warhammeronline. Just not sure about the registration.

http://www.fileplanet.com/betas/who_key_auth.aspx

Go to that page once you're logged in to fileplanet. You can also download the client from http://torrent2.eamythic.com/WarBeta.torrent if you don't mind torrents

Also the NDA for the beta is being lifted today. Expect to see a flood of full-length reviews very soon.

and i thought i was the only one of that "kind" O_O

yeh, i said few months ago, when i just bought AoC that there's no way i'll try WAR, but more it's comming closer to release, more i have feeling i'll buy it, even if i'll just play it for 1 month to try. Got accounts of games i played for few weeks only, guess i'll just add WAR to that collection or maybe play it on if it will be any good

Okay, thanks for the help. Got to wait 50 minutes, looks like a lot of people are downloading it too...

Oh, and torrenting is slow. Going to take a week, because speed is usually under 20 kb/s. Maybe fileplanet will be faster :/

edit: ZOMG 100-160 kb/s on fileplanet. Nice.

Oh God. Quite opposite. Kids beg parents "MOMMY MOMMY BUY BUY ONLY $12 A MONTH PLS PLS I WILL BE GOOD AT SCHOOL" and mommy buys. But adult students that earn $400 a month, pay $300 per month for house (if they are single - it's really expensive in my town) have no cash to waste for games. Of course, but an adult 30-40 years $15 is nothing (even for me, 16 years, it's not that much), but a lot more kids play PC games than adults.

Heck, I would pay to play for Ragnarok Online if not for the fact that right now my only available card is Visa Electron, which can't be used in Pay Pal or, for example, Steam. So for the next 2 years I'm forced to ask my dad (mother has Electron too) to "lend" me his card (Visa), then I give him it in PL (polish zloty). Kinda stupid and pointless to have Visa Electron right now. Oh well.

I'm in the Closed Beta (for CE pre-orders) right now, if anyone has questions, I can try to answer them.

I for one am definately getting it. I have always enjoyed the PvE aspect of MMO's but I also am very partial to PvP. I think WAR , from what I have read, bridges both worlds in a seemless fashion.

I do have one question, which may seem rather trivial:

I love GW's system as it pertains to healing, in particular, the protection line of healing. Do you know what the healing system looks like in WAR? I know each race has its own particular healer type, but do they have access to more proactive healing skills or are they simply reactive?

Well, overall I am liking the game.

To let you guys know where I come from I have always been an FPS player at heart (UT, CS, etc), My first MMO was Ultima Online, but I sold my sub after a month, it just never appealed to me as an rpg, let alone being an mmo. I didnt do more than beta test any MMO's after that (planetside, etc) until Guild Wars came out, which I bought, played a bit, then put away because I was playing CS:Source more actively, when Nightfall went into Preview, I came back and picked up Factions and NF and have been playing GW ever since, with forays into betas for LOTRO and AoC and anything else I can get in.

So, like I said, overall I am liking th game so far. I was a CE Pre-order beta, so I have less than a week online with it. I havent tried all the classes, but I have leveled an Ironbreaker dwarf to 10 and a Bright Wizard to 8, I also started a White Lion, but I havent gone more than a level or 2 there.

The graphics are WOW like, but mostly in the color pallete. Of course, if you dont have a good card, you will be stuck with models and textures that many consider to be a cast off of WOW, But I am running on a 9800GX2 and I have the graphics as high as they can go, and it looks great. You have grass and trees and detailed textures and the effects are pretty good, armors and weapons all look great. There are many things like animations and character creation choices, that are very bland right now. Most of these I am sure will be expanded by launch or soon after since they need to keep the beta size in check. I have experienced these things in every mmo I have beta tested, so I dont see it as a problem like many others do.

Melee Combat is a little funky to me comming from GW, where you attack, hit and do damage for each hit. Warhammer has an auto-attack with a global cooldown, so you DPS is based solely on the dps of your weapon. It was very akward for me at first, but I have gotten used to it and they have been working on making it better constantly. Right now, the combat also feels a little detached, because you dont get a sense of the "hit" like you do in GW, but this is supposedly somewhat because of placeholder animations and because they are still working on some aspects of combat.

The only ranged combat I've done is with the wizard, and it plays quite well. You have many fire based spells, so are direct damge, some are DOT, but they all have a chance to produce and explosion, which is cool. You can get some insane criticals at the right combinations, but sometimes those explosions will take you out as well (only happened once in all my 8 levels).

As far as healing, I can only tell you from the prespective of being the healee. There are pre-protects and stuff available. There are Hots and there are straight heals. I have seen myself get healed for 1000+ health in seconds mid-battle. Plus there are potions and stuff, but I find those to be largely un-effective. Many of the protection skills are found in the tanking classes and theses are mainly of the debuff enemy/buff ally type. There is a skill on the Ironbreakers where you share 1/2 your ally's damage with yourself. There is also a skill where you debuff an enemy by 30% until that enemy attacks you 3 times, which helps to keep the melee off the casters.

The PvE is run of the mill. Alot of quests are go here, kill this, collect these. I havent found them too annoying, because they seem to always get changed up enough to be different. The quests are set up to push you towards the open Realm vs Realm (RvR) areas, the Public Quests (PQ), and the Scenario RvR (scenarios).

The most fun in PvE are the Public Quests. These would be in a sense, like doing a dungeon in GW, but they are done by everyone together. You might have 2 people doing it, or 50. You can group up, go solo, whatever you want. There are several "levels" to each PQ, they are not levels as in new areas, but a certain set of objectives that have to be reached. Often the first level is kill x of these. Sometimes it is Orcs comming across the wall, sometimes it is pirates landing on the beach, a couple times it has been rescuing x amount of people. They are all varied and they have a story of sorts to them. One a level is complete, you go to the next level, and so on, untill you go to a boss fight. After the boss is dead, a chest spawns and every gets a "roll" to determine who gets an item from the chest. Everyone starts with an equal roll based on the number of people in the quest area. Each person gets a bonus to thier roll based on how much they have contributed to the overall quest. The number of people that can get loot, seems to be based also on the number of people in the quest, so if there were 10 people in the quest, there might be on 2 or 3 that get loot, but if there were 30, then maybe 8 or 10 get loot. If you get a 1st place loot you get a better loot bag, that you open and it has a random item in it. Better bags have better items and so forth. The one downside is that high level players can roll in and kinda "run the table" so to speak, but it will be rare, because it is not like they are getting items worth much or that they can even use.

The RvR scenarios remind me alot of a small scale tactical FPS like Counter Strike. These are usually 20vs20 objective based battles. They have a bit of story behind them and various objectives, like holding an area, killing things, etc. You are re-rezzed in like 30 seconds with no DP and you go back into battle. At the end of the match a screen comes up with everyones kills, total damage, total healing, etc. It is almost like AB, with just a little less people and more varied gameplay due to different objectives. You can join thes as a group, or even solo. There is a wait time (queue) to get in just like AB.

The open RvR is set in large areas in the PvE world. These kinda remind me of the Battlefield games or a super version of AB. There is no wait, you just run across and invisible line and you get a message that you have entered an RvR area. Your stats get set to a certain number depending on which area you are in. The lowest area it is level 8. AFAIK, it doesnt adjust your skills or equipment, so higher levels have a slight advantage with more skills and better equipment. This is again objective based with capture points. There are bases where you re-spawn upon death. Sometimes you may have to run aways to get back into battle. These can change tide quickly as people log on and log off. I have even seen some that were pretty much empty at times.

Overall, I think the PvP is very exciting. I dont have access to the keep sieges and higher end PvP, because that is still in the hands of select beta groups, but from what I hear, a keep can take hours to siege and can be lost in minutes if not defended well.

One thing I already LOVE in WAR and going to buy at least 1 month subscription - Public Quests. Nothing beats killing stupid dwarfs or dryads with a pack of WAAARGH boyz, 'rite?!

Few phases for each PQ, each rewards you if you helped the team win (although you don't need to be in a team - everyone, even outside of the team can join you) and you CAN'T afk it. Okay, you can, but you barely get influence points or exp, if at all.

I have yet to see PvP, but PvE quests are not all *kill 10 monsters and bla bla bla*. I have yet to see those 10 monsters, like in WoW or GW. Quests here are fun, like "Go find a dwarf, beat him half to death, put in a barrel and push from a giant dam". Or "catapult yourself to that dam and talk with XXX''. Or, in one of the PQ's (I'm playing as WAAAGH! Black Orc), players must fetch 20 barrels of beer for a giant, as he got thirsty after first battle.

But I only hate one thing - sometimes there is a bug, where dead enemies show up as alive - you can attack them, but you get message "Target is dead" and basically... it's annoying. Oh, and that at first interface might be a little confusing, like why inventory is under P (same as character), instead of I. And auto-run assigned to 4th mouse button... Dunno where with a normal mouse, though.

Luckily I don't have THAT good PC, but it doesn't lag. May be just a little more PC-demanding than GW:EN.

Now if you excuse me, I have to gather de Boyz fur sum serius STOMPING. WAAAGH!!

Regardless of what happens to WAR, Public Quests and Open party system will be used in every MMO 2009 onwards. These are features which make you go "wow seriously, why didn't anyone think of that earlier?'

Well, it's the first game I've seen using that system. So even if MMO's will use it, credit will probably go to WAR.

...Btw, there are 835k beta applicants. And a lot of people pre-ordered already.
